<description>In &#38; Around C is a participatory art installation incorporating a series of live musical performances. Participants activate the piece by walking on an enlarged musical staff. Musicians view aerial photographs of the people on the staff and subsequently interpret the 'notes.' The goal of In &#38; Around C is to create a deeper level of engagement between art and the public through physical and aural immersion. The exhibition will take place at Gallery One Twenty Eight, 128 Rivington, New York, NY from August 16-30, 2012. This project is made possible by the Open Meadows Foundation and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Manhattan Community Arts Fund. Check out the teaser video:

Open Call for Ensembles, Musicians, and Composers!
Dates and times of public exhibition: August 17-30, 2012
Tuesday-Thursday, 2-8 pm; Friday-Sunday, 12-7 pm; Closed Monday

ENSEMBLES
A minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 6 people can perform at a time. (An ensemble of 5-6 musicians is best. If you are an individual musician not currently in an ensemble, just get some people together for this and give yourselves a name.) If your group is too large, try splitting it into smaller groups and request perform on multiple dates. Ensembles can choose one or more dates and/or times to perform. Time slots will be on the half hour (i.e., 2:30, 3:30, etc.). We hope performances will last about forty minutes to an hour, like In C…it will really depend on how long you can last! We’ll all be mic’d so that we can be nice and loud.

The event will be suggested donation. All donations will go to the group who is performing at the time. (For example, Ensemble X performs from 3:30-4:30 pm, so Ensemble X will receive all donations received from 3:30-4:30 pm)

COMPOSERS
Create a framework to interpret the still images of people on the staff (aerial view). How would your guidelines manifest themselves to the musicians?
Each ensemble will be able to choose which composer guidelines (if any) they would like to follow.

We are launching a Kickstarter campaign, where we will include info about all participating ensembles and composers.

Sign Up Forms
Ensembles
Composers

Filling out the form does not guarantee a spot; it is first come, first served.

The forms will close on May 31, 2012.

Performance dates will be confirmed one month prior to the event.
